This is the CardiAid AED unit. This unit is very similar to other units that we've looked at already. It comes in a solid case and on here is the inspection window so you'll be able to see that the unit is flashing inside, so you know it's functioning correctly. What we do with this one when you're going to use it, is unzip the main case and then from there you can get access directly to the unit. Inside the unit here, you can have instructions or any other information. Now this particular unit here we're looking at is a training device, but it works exactly the same way as the live unit. Just to make life easier, what we'll do is just take it out of the case for now. So the unit here, you activate it by lifting up the flap and once you've done that, it will go into the main cycle for the voice prompts.

Check for breathing. Call 1-1-2. If not breathing normally, remove clothing from chest and stick on electrodes. Stick electrodes on.

So what I've done now since this is a training device, I've just popped that on to pause so that we can just look at some of the features. Here's where the plugs for the pads would go in, the pads would always be connected to the unit the whole time. Going round here, we've got indicators on what to do to open the airways, attaching pads, so there's prompts on here exactly what to do and where to do the breaths. In the middle here is the flash button, so this would flash when it's recommending that the person gets a shock. Bottom here, we've an "I" button for information. And along here are just some flashing lights. This is just indicating that the unit is functioning correctly or whether there's a problem, and also whether there's a battery warning. So when you're looking at the unit routinely, just keep a check on here to make sure that there's no other problems within the unit that may need maintenance or any other spares added to the unit. In the top here is a little pouch, what we've got in there is the main kit where you've got the shaver, you've got resuscitation masks, scissors, and anything else that you need, you can pop into there, gloves and aprons and things if you need them. The CardiAid AED unit. Very simple, easy to use and there's quite a lot of these coming out onto the market now.

Details on this AED unit are available in the student download area.
